Presidents Day is Monday, February 15, 2021. Order today to get your set of beautiful American Flags forming a V in your yard or at your front door in an apartment setting. You now can honor every Veteran you know or have known. Additionally, you will be celebrating their Valor and sacrifice. The V is also a sign of hope for Victory, especially now with the Pandemic. The local Kiwanis Club of Skidaway started this program more than eight years ago, with volunteers placing a set of crossed flags in neighbors’ yards four times per year. Kiwanis President Jim Overton emphasized, “Without the support and active contributions of so many incredible people in our greater community, we would not be able to help the many at-risk children via the nonprofit agencies to whom we were able to donate a grand total of $65,000 in 2020!

During the initial phases of the pandemic (March and April 2020), many of the Kiwanis members got together to build brand new bases for the flags. The bases eliminate the possibility of the flags touching the ground. It also makes it easy for landscapers to move and replace the flags when they cut the grass, and it looks sharp and appealing. For inside settings, the bases and flags are colorful and patriotic. We are committed to placing quality displays in your yard; thus we recently refurbished more than 350 blocks to meet your expectations. Members got together at Chris and Bill’s home to complete this effort.

We have increased from 100 to nearly 900 supporters in The Landings, The Marshes, Modena, Thrive, and South Harbor. The Kiwanis Club of Skidaway has 35 volunteers that place the bases and flags four times per year in your yard or apartment entry two days prior to a holiday and remove them a day or two afterwards. As a supporter, whether you are home or away for Veterans Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, or Independence Day, you can be assured that your yard or apartment entry will be patriotic and well taken care of.

Important Note: Due to COVID-19, the Kiwanis Club of Skidaway’s revenue has been negatively impacted, which, in turn, limits our ability to provide needed funds to youth who are at-risk. Your contribution of $50 not only provides you with patriotic flags four times per year, but also will directly help children in need.
