CCA Kids’ Fishing Derby and Oyster Roast Reset For 2021

Two of our island’s favorite Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) sponsored events have been rescheduled for dates in 2021. Earlier this year, the Board of the Skidaway Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) hoped we could hold our Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby this fall. Due to continuing concerns about the safety of group activities and strict limits on crowd sizes, we felt it best to cancel this year’s event. The 2021 Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held on May 29, 2021, over the Memorial Day Weekend. This will mark the 25th anniversary of this family tradition on our island! We should note that the Kids Fishing Lagoon (behind the firehouse near the intersection of Westcross and Log Landing roads) remains open to families looking to spend some great time outdoors, and the fall months are prime time to catch some fat bluegills. Yes, mom and dad can fish along with their children. With the same safety issues in mind, we have canceled this year’s December CCA Oyster Roast. This typically sold-out event is hosted by CCA volunteers and is considered by many to be the premier oyster roast on the island. A new date for 2021 will be announced when it is determined it can be safely held and enjoyed in the traditional manner guests have become accustomed. We look forward to kicking-off these two long-time CCA traditions in 2021 and welcoming all of you back!
