Main Gate Closed for Road Resurfacing (August 17-22)

Beginning Monday, August 17, the Main Gate will be closed for resurfacing (both the entrance and exit lanes). Barring delays, Bennett Paving is scheduled to complete this project by August 22, at which time the Main Gate will be reopened for use. Association staff have requested that Chatham County modify the timing of the traffic light at the Westcross/Diamond Causeway intersection to help with the additional traffic traveling through the Oakridge Gate. We've also requested that personnel from Chatham County Police Department be onsite during morning and peak hours to help with any traffic congestion issues.

The asphalt is failing along the entry and exit lanes due to a combination of age, usage, and a deteriorating base caused by water intrusion. Additionally, this area receives heavy traffic (approximately 5,500 vehicles enter through the Main Gate each day) from vehicles of all sizes, including larger dump trucks, etc., which has accelerated the formation of potholes and subsequent asphalt failures. The steady flow of large grapple trucks removing debris after Hurricane Matthew in 2016-17 contributed to this failure.

These sections of roadway were last resurfaced in 2006. In 2016, these lanes received a Top Guard sealcoat application, which prolonged the full replacement of the entry and exit lanes. However, due to the accelerated deterioration of the asphalt and subbase, these lanes need to be addressed immediately, according to reviews by multiple engineers.

During this project, the Main Gate will be closed to all vehicular traffic. However, the community path alongside the Main Gate will be open for golf cart and pedestrian use.

Detour instructions are outlined below, or you can click here to view the map. Signage also will be placed throughout the community to help guide residents and guests through the detours.

Midpoint residents: Please use the North/Marshwood Gate (located on McWhorter Drive) for entry/exit. An alternate route is via Brandenberry Road to Yam Gandy Road, then take a right on Landings Way South and a left on Westcross Road, which will lead you to the Oakridge Gate.

Residents north of Tidewater Way (including those traveling to Landings Harbor Marina): Please use the North/Marshwood Gate (located on McWhorter Drive) for entry and exit.

Residents south of Tidewater Way (including those traveling to Delegal Creek Marina): Please use the Oakridge Gate via Westcross Road for entry and exit.

It is important to note that there will not be any disruption to persons traveling on Landings Way North and Landings Way South directly behind the Main Gate.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support as The Public Works Department continues to improve the infrastructure located throughout the community. Please watch your email for more details regarding this project as they become available. We also will send an email when the Main Gate is reopened.
