President's Update 4-29-20

When I became President of The Landings Association’s Board in January, I thought I had a pretty good idea of the issues that needed to be addressed this year. I never saw COVID-19 coming. Here we are, experiencing a social distancing springtime in Savannah, sheltering at home. Has this been inconvenient and unsettling? Absolutely. Has it been necessary? Without question. Will we return to normal? We will return to a normal, although we don’t know what our new normal will be.

At the same time, I can’t think of a better place to be than here in The Landings. The beauty of our community is showcased in the spring, and the weather has cooperated to allow us to take advantage of the full range of outdoor activities. We can appreciate the wisdom of continuing to provide sufficient financial resources to preserve our community and make it ageless.

Because we have not have yet experienced the full impact of COVID-19 locally, our current situation seems surreal. Nevertheless, we have a unique opportunity to help flatten the curve by acting responsibly. Physical distancing is a way of life. In this time of uncertainty, there are two things that are certain: There is no cure, and there is no vaccine. I think the words of Sir Winston Churchill from a speech he gave in November of 1942, sums up perfectly where we are: Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

Life at The Landings and the business of TLA does not stop during a pandemic. Whether working remotely from home or here on site, TLA’s employees are keeping our community running smoothly and are addressing issues or problems that may arise. Our administrative employees virtually come together to ensure the continuation of the day-to-day business. Our Security, Public Works, and Marinas staff are here daily performing their regular duties and handling any issues in their respective areas. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our community.

Finally, to the class of 2020, congratulations! You have reached a major milestone in your lives. Your disappointment in how the academic year ended is shared by many in the community. Please don’t let it take away from your accomplishments.
