In this time of uncertainty of COVID-19, good news always is welcomed. In that vein, The Landings is pleased to announce our second anniversary as an Audubon International Certified Community!

The decision to pursue certification as a Sustainable Community was made in 2013 as a project of Skidaway Audubon with support from The Landings Association and The Landings Club. Sustainable certification for the community was a Landings Association Strategic Plan objective and was achieved in 2018. A steering committee led by Mal Welch guided the process with resident volunteers, staff, and professionals, including those from UGA Marex and the State Park, contributing their expertise.

“There was a wellspring of support from many stewardship groups on the island, including Coastal Conservation Association Skidaway Chapter (CCA), Green Thumb Garden Club, and The Landings Garden Club,” Welch said. “There also were grants for signage and map projects from Landlovers, and there are large numbers of resident birders, artists, and photographers who use nature and our natural beauty as their focus. Certification is a salute to all of them.”
