CCA Presentation

On Monday, Sean Burgess was the guest speaker at CCA’s (Coastal Conservation Association) March Meeting. The topic for this month’s meeting was “The Secret Underground Water System of The Landings” which included an overview of CCA’s role in the fishery management across the island. Over 85 residents were in attendance and enjoyed learning about The Landings underground storm water system along with CCA’s role with fishery management.

2020 Road Repair and Replacement Project

On Monday, Bennett Paving will begin the repair and replacement (a complete mill and repave) of Middle Marsh Retreat and Hammock View Lane. All residents located on Middle Marsh Retreat and Hammock View Lane were notified of this work via a communication that was placed in their mail tube. Staff will continue to send communications via e-blast to update on the contractor’s progression and any delays throughout the ongoing project.

Absolute Concrete continues to complete concrete curb repairs included within the project scope ahead of Bennett Paving.

Delegal Fixed Pier

This week staff installed white caps on the 6x6 posts along the staircase of the Delegal Tower (where the observation scope is located). The cap installations are intended to extend the useful life of the existing posts by reducing the amount of moisture that is absorbed through the top of the posts. Over the next several months, staff will monitor the effectiveness of these caps in the hopes of potentially installing a similar product for use at Landings Harbor to extend the life of the post railing along the sea wall.

Deer Creek Maintenance

In preparation for the Korn Ferry Tournament at the end of this month, in-house staff completed pressure washing both Deer Creek Access Control Facilities, repairing and replacing damaged fencing, signage and completing paint touch ups where applicable.

Additionally, the tree crew pruned limbs and removed Spanish moss from various trees located along Shellwind Drive.

Electrofishing

CCA (Coastal Conservation Association) volunteers, in conjunction with Georgia Plantation Solutions and TLA staff, finished the electrofishing process in the following lagoons this week: 72, 82, 83, 86, 88, 89 ,91, 104, 126, 141, 148, and 149. Due to the rainfall we received last week, the group was unable to complete this annual project last week and finalized the process on Wednesday.

For those unfamiliar with the process, electrofishing sends a weak electrical current through the lagoon water that temporarily stuns the fish. The fish are then collected, identified by species, weighed and measured. This information is then used to determine the relative weights of the fish and identify predator/prey relationships in the lagoons. This information is then used to determine the overall fishery health of the lagoons and is also utilized in future lagoon stocking recommendations. This program is generously funded by the members of CCA and is conducted annually.
