After the Flea Market is Auctionmania

High value or special treasures will be set aside for Auctionmania, which will be held on Tuesday, March 10, at Plantation Clubhouse for Landings residents only.

Changes Coming to Auctionmania

You shared your thoughts, and we listened! You love supporting Auctionmania, the silent auction benefiting Landings Landlovers, but the long checkout lines are frustrating. You were concerned that the tabulators needed so much time to tabulate, and you didn’t think it was fair for those “last-minute bidders” to sign the auction slips after the buzzer had sounded.

We wanted to learn how other organizations handle their silent auctions, and we didn’t have to look too far. Right here on Skidaway Island, our CCA (Coastal Conservation Association) had converted to a mobile electronic payment system for their silent auction and fundraiser. We attended their auction, observed their process, and found our answer.

A mobile system allows bidding and payment right from your smartphone. There’s no need to hunt down bid sheets because you’ll be able to bid from anywhere in the room on your phone.  In addition, items can be viewed in advance of the event, so you’ll know which treasures need a place in your home.

Several companies now supply these systems, and we chose the one we think will work the best for Auctionmania. While many of us love our smartphones and look forward to having Landlovers enter the 21st century, some people might think that this sounds too futuristic and confusing. Don’t worry; there will be representatives from the company at Auctionmania to walk us through the process, and there will be bidding stations available for those without phones. As we get closer to the event, we’ll be sending out more information, but we were excited to share this news. It’s a new world, and Auctionmania is part of it!
