Who are Those Holiday Décor Elves?

It happens every year. You drive out a Landings gate in the morning, and everything looks normal. But when you return, the entrance is magically transformed into a holiday wonderland, with beautiful decorations adorning the gatehouses.

If you’ve ever wondered who the holiday elves were, the secret is out -- THE LANDINGS GARDEN CLUB! Club members have been decorating (and un-decorating) the community entrances for many years.

Each year, the Garden Club volunteers arrive bright and early on a morning shortly after Thanksgiving, armed with ladders, wire, tape, and boxes of decorations. While many of the decorations are re-used from year to year, the Garden Club members get creative to surprise and delight residents with a beautiful display each year. The décor highlights, of course, are the beautiful bows, which the Garden Club members handcraft and sell as their only fundraiser during the year.

Proceeds from the bows are used for Garden Club projects, which in 2019-20 will include planting projects at Hesse School, The Village Library, Bethesda, the Skidaway Marine Science Center, and The Landings Pollinator Berm. Proceeds from the bows also cover Landings tree plantings in honor of Arbor Day, upkeep of the Memorial Hospital Serenity Garden, support for various community environmental programs, and a scholarship offered through the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.

You can help support The Landings Garden Club and its good works for the island by buying holiday bows. Bows will be for sale at The Village shopping center in front of the fountain from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 2, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 29, 30 and December 2, 7, 9, and 14, 2019. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted for purchase of the bows.
