After a quiet — even uneventful — night on Skidaway, Thursday morning began with a bang followed by darkness.
At 7:40 a.m. resident Kerrie Durham reported hearing a loud noise, suggesting that perhaps a transformer had blown. Residents went on social media to report that their power had gone out, and compare notes about which neighborhoods were impacted.
Many residents reported receiving outage alert text messages from Georgia Power. According to the Georgia Power outage map, the outage covers much of Skidaway Island, affecting 3547 residents.
Current projections are for power to be restored by 11:00 a.m.
