Chatham County Trash Collection

Are you getting rid of an old desk, cardboard, or small furniture items that are too large to dispose of in your trash receptacle? If so, the Chatham County Public Works Department collects bulky trash items (no hazardous material or food items) on the second Friday of every month.

• Styrofoam
• Duracell, Energizer, or any throw-away Battery
• Plastic Cups
• Plastic items that are not bottles are not recyclable
• Take away containers, margarine, ice cream and yogurt containers, plastic toys, and all varieties of plastic bags and wrapping cannot be recycled as they are not made from the right type of plastic
• Motor oil containers (cannot be recycled)
• VCR Tapes
• Paint Thinners
• Gasoline
• Yard Waste
• Televisions
• Household Garbage
• Plastic Bags (of any variety)
• Insulation
• Pizza Boxes or materials containing food
• Shoes
• Clothing
• Packing peanuts
• Flowerpots
• Hard Back Books
• Tires/Rubes
• Wood
• Toilets, Sinks, or Urinals
• Cooking Oil
• Chemicals (e.g., Cleaners, Paints, Solvents, ACIDs)
• Hazardous Waste

• Compact Fluorescents (Long Tubes or Pig Tail Type)

• Toilet Tissue/Paper Towels
• Yard Debris (Dry Trash also is collected by The Chatham County Public Works Department on Tuesday of each week. Landings Association policy is that yard debris must not be placed curbside until the day before pickup…no more than 24-hours). Yard debris includes yard clippings, leaves, limbs, and pruning debris. Chatham County will not accept household garbage with your yard debris.

Important Notes and Rules regarding Bulk Trash and Yard Debris

• Trash of any kind must not be placed or discarded on unimproved lots or Landings Association common property. Remember to inform your landscape workers that there are heavy fines associated with these violations.
• General Rules and Regulations for Commercial and Contractor Activity: Blowing clippings and other debris into the streets, lagoons, or down the storm drains is prohibited. All debris should be bagged and removed from the work area or stowed in the homeowner’s service yard.
• Commercial vendors or contractors violating the Rules and Regulations may be fined up to $500 per violation along with possible revocation of RFID tags and denial of future entry.
• Remember to inform your landscape workers that there are heavy fines associated with dumping yard debris on Common Property and empty lots. This includes the deactivation of RFIDs and being banned from working in The Landings.
