Did you know that horseshoe crabs actually have blue blood? Our blood is red because we have iron in our blood, but horseshoe crabs have copper in their blood that gives it a blue color. As a result of the unique characteristics of horseshoe crab blood, it is harvested for its use in the medical industry to help identify presence of bacteria.
