Kiwanis Show Our Colors Program

The Kiwanis Club of Skidaway began the Show Our Colors program for July 4, 2012, with approximately 100 supporters. Originally the idea of General Keith Glenn, a long-time member of the club, this idea has blossomed. Today, we provide as many as 550 families at The Landings and The Marshes with a set of two, crossed American flags for each of the four, observed flag holidays. These flags are placed in the yards or by the door of subscribers and then picked up again after the holiday by Kiwanis volunteers. For a donation of $50 per year, our members will place the flags in your yard for the Fourth of July, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans’ Day. You can be on vacation, out playing golf, or in your recliner, and your yard will look festive and patriotic. This program generates more than $20,000 per year and has grown every year as neighbors and friends notice the flags and wanted to be part of the action. All proceeds from this program go to support agencies in the Greater Savannah Area for underprivileged kids. To join the fun, contact Bill and Chris Aiken Sickels (cbaiken@aol.com or 912-598-9123).
