Marinas Update

If you haven’t made a trip to the Marinas recently, come by and see what’s new. Last month, weather stations were installed at each Marina. The Landings Association’s Strategic Water Committee recently formed a sub group that is looking to foster the installation of weather stations (like the one at right) around the island. The focus is gathering weather information (especially rainfall) for analysis regarding water consumption and replenishment and providing real time information to residents relative to local weather.

Two residents generously volunteered to underwrite the cost of the stations for each marina, and staff volunteered to install them. Both stations have been installed and will soon be connected to the Weather Underground network. At Landings Harbor, the display is located in the window of the dockhand shack, and at Delegal, it’s located outside the screened-in porch area on the pier. The displays tell you all the pertinent information relative to current weather conditions.

The Landings Harbor bathrooms are getting a long-awaited makeover. The renovation includes new tile, wainscoting, new vanities, light fixtures, and painting. The renovation will be completed before the big Memorial Day weekend.

Speaking of Memorial Day weekend, the community’s annual HarborFest event will take place Saturday, May 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For those of you who are new to the community, every year the community celebrates the kickoff to summer with HarborFest at Landings Harbor. Staff and volunteers have been diligently planning this event, and it’s sure to be the best one yet! Thus far, plans include a Rhodes 19 sailing course and display, a United States Coast Guard helicopter water rescue demonstration, fishing and crabbing on the pier, kids’ face painting, Carefree boat rides, kids’ games provided by The Landings Club, a dunk tank, a Carefree anniversary celebration recognizing the founding members, and a variety of food options. Several vendors with individual booths also will be staged in the picnic area. Be sure to check your email for ongoing information about HarborFest and other community programs throughout the summer season. If you are unable to attend, don’t worry; additional events are planned for the summer season.

We will continue to offer Sunset Cruises from the Marinas, along with paddleboard and kayak classes. Be sure to visit our website (www.landings.org/marinas) to view the calendar and make reservations for all Marinas activities. If there are other water-related activities that are of interest to you, please let us know by calling the Marinas’ office (598-1901).

While you are at Delegal, don’t forget to take advantage of our Kayak Rental Program. Full day, ½ day, and hourly rentals of single and double kayaks are available to all residents. To learn more about pricing and reservations, call the Delegal office (224-3885).

As we look ahead to summer, don’t forget Memorial Day weekend is when we change hours of operation at the Marinas. The new hours at Delegal Creek Marina will be Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours at Landings Harbor Marina will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. These new hours will take effect Friday, May 24. We look forward to enjoying the summer with you!

Until next time, see you around the Marinas!
