Public Works...Working for You!

Quote from Sprayfield Herbicide Treatment/Management
As a part of the TLA/UI Herbicide and Aquatic Management of the North and South Sprayfield Contract that was executed last month, staff are in the process of completing the first herbicide treatment along the primary and secondary ditches located in the south sprayfield. Thereafter, in-house staff will progress to the ditches located in the north sprayfield. As a reminder, UI is paying TLA for these services ($1,386.96/treatment) and will complete the second treatment later this year.

Thompson Engineering – Marsh Tower and Islands of Deer Creek Bridge
As part of the management of TLA-owned assets, staff ensure that engineered structural assessments and evaluations are conducted for bridges, facilities, and structures located throughout the community. This year, engineered evaluations are required for the Marsh Observation Tower and Islands of Deer Creek Bridge. Staff obtained a quote from Thompson Engineering to conduct a structural analysis and provide a subsequent report for both assets at a total cost of $7,500 ($3,750 per structure). Staff intend to proceed with the proposal and will utilize funds set aside in the department’s engineering operational budget. Once Thompson Engineering has provided its final report and recommendations, staff will update the Board.

Dredging in Lagoons
Estate Management completed dredging the south end of Lagoon 3 (located on Landings Way North), the north end of Lagoon 7 (located on Landings Way North near The Landings Company), and Lagoon 15A(located off of Bartram Road behind Galphin Lane). At this time, staff are waiting for the dredge bags at each lagoon to dewater (3-4 weeks) before the material can be hauled off.

Kids Fishing Lagoon Storage Shed
Duke’s Custom Construction is scheduled to complete the installation of the storage shed at the Kid’s Fishing Lagoon by the end of the week. The funding for the shed was generously donated by CCA ($8,000) and will house fishing equipment for the annual Kid’s Fishing Derby and other CCA-sponsored events onsite rather than having to tote the equipment in the back of trucks before and after each event.

2019 Community Path Project
Absolute Concrete is scheduled to complete the remaining paths in Plantation by April 15. The contractor will progress to the conversion of the paths in Deer Creek during the week of April 29.

2019 Road Replacement Project
Bennett Paving is scheduled to begin this year’s road replacement project on April 15 in the Marshwood area of the community with the following roads: Ribault Road, Deveaux Lane, and Turtle Lane. Communications have been sent via e-blast and Swift911, and correspondence has been placed in the mail tubes of property owners along said roads.

Landings Way South Road Seam Concerns
Sections of Landings Way South were repaved in 2012-2013 and 2015-2016 by Carroll & Carroll. The current separation and water intrusion exhibited in these sections have compromised the sub-base. This week, a 750 linear foot test area of hot tar crack sealant/filler was applied to a section on Landings Way South between Shagbark Lane and Buckthorn Lane. This test area does not include filling all cracks along the roadway, just the specific area where the seam is delaminating near the white community path lane. According to our engineers with Thomas & Hutton, these seam issues have been witnessed in other areas throughout Coastal Georgia, and solutions to prevent this type of separation have yet to be determined (other than a full mill and replacement). Once the test area has been completed, staff will provide a formal recommendation to the Board.

Mailbox and Sign Painting Program Prep
In preparation for this year’s mailbox and sign painting program (where 1/3 of the community is addressed each year), staff completed the repairs/replacements in Moon River this week. Staff will begin working in Marshview Landing next week and will progress to the areas along Westcross Road thereafter.

AED (Automated External Defibrillators) Installations
Staff received the last three AED units from Les Anderson this week. On Tuesday, the AED units were installed at the Dog Park, Athletic Field, and Skidaway Farms.
