Mad Enchantment: Monet and the Painting of the Water Lilies
November 7, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
Don’t miss this exciting Ross King lecture and luncheon related to the exhibition Monet to Matisse: Masterworks of French Impressionism.
Claude Monet’s Water Lilies offer images of great beauty and tranquility. Ironically, these canvases were created at a time of great sorrow and anxiety as Monet struggled with old age, ill health and self-doubt, and as France was plunged into the horrors of World War I. This illustrated lecture by Ross King will tell the full story, personal and historical, behind the painting of these icons of twentieth-century art. This event is in collaboration with Telfair Academy Guild.
Ross King is a Canadian novelist and non-fiction writer based in England. He began his career by writing two works of historical fiction in the 1900s, later turning to non-fiction, and has since written several critically acclaimed and best-selling historical works including Mad Enchantment: Claude Monet and the Painting of the Water Lilies.
Sponsored by Georgine Scott–REALTOR, The Landings Company. Tickets run $75 for lecture and luncheon; $35 for lecture only.
