Public Works...Working for You!

Winter Storm Preparation

In preparation for the freezing temperatures and expected snowfall over the weekend, staff has staged sand at the Main Gate, North Gate, and TLA Administration Building. Additionally, BrightView has supplied us with an ice melt product that we have onsite for use if needed.

Welcome, Brad McKown, our new Natural Resources Manager!

We are thrilled to welcome Brad McKown (pictured at right) to our Public Works Team! Brad comes to our organization with more than 20 years in management from the clean energy industry where he served as a regional operations manager. He is an avid nature lover so he will fit in well on our beautiful, wildlife-filled island!  Brad is most excited to start meeting residents and see where he can help serve the community in his new role!

Tree Work in Common Property Courtyards

The Tree Crew currently is uplifting and removing dead, wooding trees located in the common property courtyards that abut patio lot homes. This week, crews are working on the courtyards adjacent to Robert Reid and Henry Clay courts, then proceeding to the courtyards of Lanyard and Topsail courts. This work is completed on a three-year cycle and is designed to help the overall health of the urban forest while improving the aestheics of the trees.

Lagoon Cutbacks

The lagoon crew is working on the lagoon cutbacks in the Oakridge area of the community this week. As a reminder, the lagoon cutback program is completed operationally and encompasses the uplifting of vegetation overhanging the lagoons as well as removing woody and new growth around the lagoon banks. This is completed to help improve the aesthetics of the lagoon, while keeping the lagoon banks clear enough to allow adequate access for lagoon maintenance personnel.

Storm Drain Maintenance

Southeast Pipe Survey lined two storm drain pipes on Oyster Reef Road this week. These repairs were a part of last year’s capital project that were carried over to this year due to scheduling conflicts and unplanned work we had the contractor address prior to these previously planned repairs (i.e. immediate safety failures within the storm drain system that caused potholes and road failures within the roadways).

Delegal Marina Sunset Room Improvements

The media closet at the Delegal Marina Sunset Room received a modern upgraded barndoor this week which removed an old, inefficient bi-fold door. As one of the most frequently used Assocation-owned amenities, staff is continually looking for ways to improve the facility for its users.
