Chatham County Floodplain Administrators Meeting

Community Development staff met with Chatham County Floodplain Administrators on January 9 to address new regulations for homes in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). Such homes now need floodplain review and approval from Chatham County’s Engineering Department before obtaining building permits. This meeting facilitated enhanced communications and resource sharing between the agencies. The County‘s goal is to provide education to residents and contractors regarding the permitting process for new construction or additions in SFHA areas, promoting greater compliance with the County’s Flood Damage Prevention Ordinances and reducing overall flood-related risks.
