L.O.V.E. Seeks More Mentors

This school year, Local Outreach Volunteer Educators (L.O.V.E.) is returning to in-school mentoring to give one-on-one attention to elementary students who are struggling in class. This is especially important now, as children have lost so much learning due to COVID-19 restrictions. The program has been so successful in the past that the schools are asking us to provide additional mentors.

We work with Title 1 schools, which have a high percentage of their students from low-income families. Mentors focus on early elementary grade students who need extra help in reading or math. Many of the students thrive with the one-on-one support a mentor provides.

No prior experience is required, just a desire to help these young people succeed in school and in life. You will feel the reward of satisfaction by committing an hour or two each week to a child who needs some help.

For more information about L.O.V.E. and to learn more about how you might become a mentor, visit our website (www.lovementors.org).

Save-the-Date: There will be an Orientation Workshop at 4 p.m. on September 12, at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church for new mentors and those who want to learn more about the program.
